GOLF SUMMARY ( 1974 - 2010)

PHILIP ORR INITIATED THE " DUNGANNON CRICKET CLUB GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS " IN 1974 TAKING THE OUTING TO BUSHFOOT . DES BURROWES AND BILLY ADRAIN SHARED THE TROPHY. BILLY  HAD BACK TO BACK WINS AT BALLYCASTLE AND ROSAPENNA. THE WIND WAS GALE FORCE AT BALLYCASTLE WITH BASIL McNAMEE HAVING GREAT TROUBLE PUSHING THE FRONT DOOR OF THE MARINE HOTEL SHUT. CONDITIONS WERE EXTREME AT BALLYCASTLE AND HAVE OCCURED ON A REGULAR BASIS OVER THE YEARS SINCE THEN.

PHILIP ORR IS THE ONLY PLAYER TO PLAY IN EVERY CHAMPIONSHIP SINCE 1974 AND HAS WON ON SEVEN OCCASIONS TO BE THE MOST SUCCESSFUL GOLFER IN THE CLUB. BOB KERR WON ON SIX OCCASIONS BUT UNFORTUNATELY BOB DIED IN 2007 SUPPORTING IRELAND AT THE WORLD CUP  THE NIGHT AFTER IRELAND DEFEATED PAKISTAN. BOB WAS EXCELLENT COMPANY AND HE HAS BEEN SADLY MISSED BY US ALL. HE TOOK A GREAT INTEREST IN THE FORTUNES OF DUNGANNON LONG AFTER HE HAD MOVED INTO THE ADMINISTRATION OF IRISH CRICKET AND KEPT US UP TO SPEED ON THE PROGRESS OF IRISH CRICKET AND THE CLUB GOLFERS OBSERVED A MINUTES SILENCE TO RESPECT HIS PASSING ON TO THAT BIG CRICKET GROUND IN THE SKY.

Portstewart Strand was played in 1977 and threw up a surprise winner in Terry Houston on his only appearence. This course proved to be difficult

The following the Old Portstewart course was chosen and the Championship was Played there for four years until Bob Kerr took the Championship to Greencastle where it remained for the next eleven years because of the excellent service provided by Mr McNamarra in his Moville Hotel. Bob Kerr chalked up five wins in this time.
